Who is on the team?
The corporate responsibility team at the facilities provider ISS was set up in 2008 and comprises a corporate responsibility director, a corporate responsibility analyst and a corporate responsibility officer. The team is supported by a network of "community champions" – staff who are nominated by senior managers to promote community activities.

What did it do?
The team holds quarterly meetings with the community champions to discuss ways of encouraging community participation across the whole of the business. It has set up the Outstanding Community Achievement Awards to recognise staff members who have demonstrated outstanding support for their local communities. In 2009, the team adopted the London Benchmarking Group model to enable it to measure its community activities in terms of cash donated, time volunteered, in-kind contributions and other types of contribution. The team also works on the company’s corporate charity partnership with the British Heart Foundation and produces an internal community magazine to update employees on current community activities.

Why did it win?
Since the formation of the CSR team, the contributions the company has made to the community have more than doubled from £200,262 a year to £507,422 a year. The number of volunteering hours staff contribute has increased from 2,309 to 9,554 a year. Thanks to the team, the amount raised for the BHF has doubled from £60,000 in 2010 to more than £120,000 in 2013.

What did the judges say?
Lynda Thomas, head of fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "It was a well thought out application with good data to show impact."
