What is the partnership?

The IT company Cisco provides the technology that enables Comic Relief to collect millions of pounds of public donations through the web and call centres during the Red Nose day appeal. The company also fundraises for the charity.

What did the company do?

Cisco provides a team of people and equipment to help run and support the donation platform and provides technical support throughout the year. More than 100 of Cisco’s employees organised activities including the Green Park Triathlon in Reading, raising more than £45,000 for Red Nose Day 2013. It also hosted the Red Nose Ball, which raised £20,000 in one night, and an internal TV Spectacular that included games such as Blankety Blank and a live gungeing of Cisco chief executive Phil Smith. Comic Relief receives £6 from the Cisco Foundation in the US for every hour that employees volunteer for the charity. The foundation also matches donations of more than £30 made by employees.

Why did it win?

Cisco’s network enabled a record-breaking £75m to be taken on the night of Red Nose day in 2013. Over the whole event, more than £100m was raised through Cisco’s donation platform. Cisco employees raised a record amount of £130,624 for Red Nose Day last year – a significant result for a company of fewer than 5,000 staff in the UK.

What did the judges say?

John Broadfoot, chief executive of SOS Kit Aid, said: "The smooth running of the fundraising systems was a vital part of Comic Relief’s success. There was a great level of employee involvement."
