The charity will soon be sending each pup to live with a volunteer puppy walker, who will spend a year introducing it to the sights, sounds and smells it will encounter as a guide dog. After that the young dogs will get more specialised training before eventually gaining their full qualification.

About 1,000 potential guide dogs go into training each year. Each has a working life of about six years, helping the charity's visually impaired clients to live as normal a life as possible.
