Cancer Research UK has launched its first fundraising quiz on Amazon Alexa for its Stand Up To Cancer campaign, starring the comedian Joe Lycett.
Stand Up To Cancer, which was launched with Channel 4 in 2012, was set up to speed up the progress of life-saving cancer research.
The quiz will allow supporters to raise money on their Alexa-enabled devices.
This is the first time Cancer Research UK has used voice-based technology for a group fundraising activity.
The quiz has four rounds of music, random facts and general knowledge-based questions.
Participants simply say "Alexa, start the Stand Up To Cancer quiz" to begin the game. A pdf version of the quiz will also be available.
Players will be encouraged to donate either by text or through an online donation page.
Alexa was chosen as the platform for the Stand Up To Cancer quiz because it has the largest market share of smart speakers.
The Stand Up To Cancer quiz will be available on Amazon Alexa until Christmas.
Tiffany Hall, chief information officer at Cancer Research UK, said: "The unique qualities of voice technology mean everyone can focus on raising money for vital research without worrying about how to host, because virtual quiz master Joe Lycett does all the hard work for you, and the audio experience puts the focus firmly on having fun and spending quality time together."
A spokeswoman for CRUK said: "We are really excited to use technology to encourage people to fundraise in different ways for Stand Up To Cancer.
"This is the first time we have used voice-based technology for a group fundraising activity, so we’re hoping as many people as possible across the country will fundraise in this new, innovative way."
