Capacitybuilders has awarded the first five grants of its £5m programme to improve small organisations' access to local resources.
The grants, which total £144,000, have been given as part of Capacitybuilders' Capital Investment Programme to provide small third sector organisations with better access to facilities offered by local resource centres, such as good quality office equipment.
The first phase of the programme aims to help groups make better use of existing resources, and the second and third phases will support the significant refurbishment and expansion of resource centres.
"Local third sector resource centres play a vital role in improving the quality and accessibility of support available to frontline organisations," said Matt Leach, chief executive of Capacitybuilders. "These awards mark the first phase of Capacitybuilders' investment, which will commit some £5m of funding over the next two years."
The organisations to receive the first grants are Retford Action Centre, Brighton and Hove Social Welfare and Educational Trust, Moseley Community Development Trust, Stroud Common Wealth and Ashfield Play Forum.
Organisations can still apply for grants under the programme by visiting www.capacitybuilders.org.uk. The deadline for applications is 31 January for the first phase of the programme and 31 March for phases two and three.
