Capacitybuilders extends support service briefing sessions

Capacitybuilders has decided to lay on more briefing events for third sector organisations wishing to deliver its new national support services after a surge in demand for the sessions.

Initially, two events – one in London on 8 October and one in Leeds on 10 October – were organised ahead of next month’s tender deadline. But demand for places was so high, with the London event quickly establishing a waiting list, that two more days have been arranged: one in Birmingham on 17 October and another in London on 24 October.

Capacitybuilders announced last month that it would be replacing the six ChangeUp hubs – finance, governance, ICT, performance, workforce and volunteering – with nine national support services, whose subjects include modernising volunteering, equality and diversity and responding to social change.

The nine programmes have been broadly welcomed by the third sector (Third Sector, 12 September), although some organisations have voiced concern that work carried out by the existing Workforce and ICT Hubs would not be effectively covered by the new arrangement (Third Sector Online, 11 September).

Prospective service providers have been invited to submit expressions of interest by 7 November. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by 21 November. The aim is for the new programmes to launch next April.
