My career: Anne-Marie Jubber, VSO

The charity's head of partnerships and events runs out of wine at the Tower of London

- The best advice I've had

Always be clear about your objectives and targets. This will help you in both your day-to-day projects and the wider direction of your career. When things get really hectic, I've found this kind of focus definitely helps me to continue in the right direction and get results.

- The biggest challenge I've faced

Managing a restructure at the same time as getting to grips with a new, high-level role. I had to keep morale high, find ways to encourage two previously separate teams to work as one and make sure we hit our annual targets. All in all, it was a great lesson in time management.

- My greatest hit

Heading the Lord Mayor's Appeal at VSO and raising more than £2.1m. It was a real insight into the workings of the City and the complexities of its history and structure. Beating the target was a truly brilliant feeling, especially when I knew I was also introducing new and highly beneficial contacts to VSO.

- My worst moment

Running low on wine at a City fundraiser. It was at the Tower of London and we had brought in additional supplies, knowing that City guests would drink more than most. But a hot evening and a great atmosphere meant that we had run out of wine before we had finished the starters.

The doors to the Tower were locked for a ceremony and the caterers couldn't get in to deliver new supplies. None of the off licences in the area were open. In the end we managed to persuade one of the Yeomen Warders to take us down to their bar, where we raided their cellar.

- My top tip

As a fundraiser I think it is essential that you really believe in and are inspired by the cause you are raising money for. If you don't believe in it, how will you inspire donors to part with their hard-earned cash?
