Singer and Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon has designed the badge that will be sold to raise money for the Variety Club's annual Gold Heart Appeal.

"I'm so happy to be involved in this campaign, where every badge you buy will make a real difference to someone's life," she said.

Boxer Amir Khan was the celebrity guest at the Bolton Lads & Girls Club's Boxing Extravaganza last month. The event included organised bouts between members of the club's boxing team and soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

Alan Dedicoat, the National Lottery 'voice of the balls', was the quizmaster at the annual supper quiz of learning disability charity Norwood last month. The event raised £9,000.

Welsh golfer Bradley Dredge has backed Shelter Cymru's annual junior golf championship. The competition, which starts in March, is open to any junior golfer with an official club handicap.

Actor Felicity Kendal has agreed to become a patron of Kerala Crafts, which sells baskets made by marginalised women in southern India to support an orphanage in the Cochin area of Kerala.
