Who is your chair?

Howard Exton-Smith. When not working for Changemakers, he is an at-home dad and part-time management consultant.

How many trustees are there?

There are eight. None are paid.

How often does the board meet?

The board meets quarterly, but we often get together to discuss specific issues between meetings, sometimes using teleconferencing.

Will the board expand?

We are planning to increase the board to about 10 members.

How do you recruit trustees?

We are currently recruiting new trustees through an open application process. The opportunity was advertised through our networks and direct approaches by board members and staff. After informal discussions, shortlisted candidates will attend a board meeting.

When was your last governance review, and what did it conclude?

We reviewed our approach to governance earlier this year. We agreed to set up working groups on a number of key strategic priorities, to identify ways in which trustees could be better used to promote the charity and to provide it with clearer milestones and objectives.

What issues is the board discussing at the moment?

Trustees are discussing impact assessments, the potential diversification into new markets and increasing our range of funding sources.
