ChangeUp funding cuts to cause more job losses

Further job losses are to hit the sector as a result of changes to the Government's ChangeUp infrastructure programme.

Volunteering England has confirmed that 10 jobs will be lost as part of a restructure prompted by reduced ChangeUp funding, and the Charities Aid Foundation will lose five posts when the Finance Hub closes at the end of March.

The six hubs set up under the ChangeUp programme are being replaced by nine national support services in April.

Volunteering England, which runs the Volunteering Hub and will also lead on its replacement, the Modernising Volunteering National Support Service, will have its funding reduced from £1.3m in 2006/07 to about £400,000 a year from April.

"This will result in the creation of 13 new posts and 10 redundancies," a spokeswoman said. "Six of these 10 are project-related posts for which funding was due to end at the end of this financial year."

CAF, which runs the Finance Hub, lost out to chief executives body Acevo to operate the Income Generation Support service, which will replace it.

The NCVO will be making up to 21 posts redundant (Third Sector Online, 8 February).
