ChangeUp 'should be local enforcer'

Local ChangeUp consortia should become the "voice of the sector" at local level, helping to bring recalcitrant local authorities into line, third sector minister Ed Miliband said last week.

Speaking at the launch of Capacitybuilders' road map for ChangeUp, Miliband said the local consortia have "huge potential".

"Local government is a big problem for the sector and we should use the might of the sector at local level to pressure authorities into doing the right thing," he said. "If the mayor of Doncaster or the leader of Birmingham council get a call from the chairman of the local consortium it should be a call they take seriously."

The role of local Change-Up consortia is to be subject to a full review to be completed by June.
