Charities help Bebo on welfare

Several charities are among organisations working with social networking site Bebo to offer online advice to its community on mental health, social care and general wellbeing.

Bebo's 12 partners on the new Be Well service include Samaritans, ChildLine, Mencap and Beatbullying. The site claims to have 12 million users.

Dr Rachel O'Connell, chief safety officer at Bebo, said: "We recognise that our community socialises online and appreciates easy access to support services from within Bebo which may not be as readily accessible in the real world."

Anthony Langan, public affairs spokesman for Samaritans, said: "Our partnership with Bebo's Be Well platform enables Samaritans to engage with a key target audience of people aged between 15 and 24, one of the most at risk groups."
