An online shopping portal that promised to donate a percentage of purchase prices to charities nominated by shoppers folded last week owing money to at least one charity.
Launched in March, igive2.co.uk acted as a directory service, listing more than 350 online shops including Argos and John Lewis (Third Sector, 10 March). A spokeswoman for Orchid Cancer Appeal said it was owed commission on £370-worth of purchases, made on July 1, that it had still not received despite repeated enquiries.
Neil Durrant, director of Submission Technology, which owned the site, said just £180 in purchases went through the site in total and blamed the closure on charities not promoting it to their supporters. He added that those due a rebate would receive it at once.
Durrant said he has "relations" with the retailers featured, but one - www.confetti.co.uk - claims not to have heard of him.
