Charity settles out of court with former manager

Arthritis Care has staved off an employment tribunal hearing after reaching an 11th-hour out-of-court settlement with the former manager of one of its hotels.

The charity reached the agreement with Alexandra Bertschy on Friday. The tribunal hearing was scheduled to take place in Southampton this week.

Bertschy, who was the manager of the charity’s Orton Rigg Hotel in Poole, Dorset, was claiming unfair dismissal after her employment with the charity was terminated in December 2006 on the grounds of alleged gross misconduct. She also claimed unfair treatment on the grounds of gender.

When contacted by Third Sector Online, Bertschy declined to comment. Arthritis Care also declined to comment on the case.
