Chris Barker is joining Third Sector as its new art editor.
Barker joins the title following a move at Haymarket Media Group, which sees him also taking on the art direction of the advertising and marketing title Campaign.
He has worked across multiple magazines and client projects at Haymarket since joining the publishing house in 1998, including designing the official daily programmes and print coverage of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
At the end of 2012, Barker took on the art editorship at business membership magazine People Management and launched its quarterly sister title Work.
He won multiple awards for the brands during his tenure, including the 2015 PPA Business Magazine Cover of the Year, and Business Cover of the Year and Art Director of the Year at the 2016 and 2017 BSME Awards.
Barker also illustrates the weekly covers of the pop-up newspaper The New European, described by design studio Magculture as “a visual joy amongst the failure of our political class to adequately address the same thoughts.”
Emily Burt, editor of Third Sector, said: “I am delighted to welcome Chris to the Third Sector editorial team. He is a visionary designer, and can imaginatively deliver across any medium – whether it’s print, digital, or viral Twitter phenomenon.
“I have no doubt this will be a very exciting new era for the title.”
Barker said: “It will be great to work with Emily, and the rest of the team, on Third Sector. She is a creative individual with big ideas for the magazine.”
“I'm looking forward to evolving these into engaging content that will communicate directly with the charities sector – a very important part of our society, and a hugely creative world in itself.”
