Christmas shoppers urged to hug a hoodie

Young volunteers in hoodies took to the streets of 10 cities across the country last week in an attempt to persuade Christmas shoppers to drop perceptions of them as 'feral yobs'.

The campaigners, under the banner ‘Don't Write Us Off', also plan to lobby local and national government for increased involvement in public services.

Their campaign is described as a ‘national conversation' and was organised by Agents4Change, a young people's project coordinated by CSV, retailer Tesco and youth volunteering charity v.

Research published by CSV to coincide with the campaign suggests 23 per cent of young people want greater involvement with local government and national politics.
