Clergyman to hit his church's roof

A priest will spend 10 nights on the roof of his north London church in a bid to raise £1m to renovate the building.

Former builder Father Malcolm Hunter is taking inspiration from the TV illusionist David Blaine, whose stunts have involved being buried alive for seven days, living in a transparent box suspended from a crane for 44 days and living underwater for seven days.

Father Hunter hopes the sponsorship generated by the stunt, which is set to begin on 29 June, will match-fund a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a new roof for the building.

The money will be used to repair the building for the use of parishioners and the church's community renewal project, which works with asylum seekers, older people, people with special needs and homeless people.
