Cleverdon and Tickell named as NCVO trustees

Business in the Community vice-president and Action for Children chief executive to join board

Dame Julia Cleverdon, vice-president of Business in the Community, and Clare Tickell, chief executive of Action for Children, have been appointed trustees of the NCVO.

Both will serve three-year terms on the umbrella body's board, which was slimmed from 40 to 12 members last year.

The pair will make up two of three appointed trustees on the board, in addition to the chair and treasurer. The third person is yet to be appointed and the remaining seven are elected.

Cleverdon was chief executive of Business in the Community for 16 years and is the organisation's vice-president.

Tickell joined Action for Children in 2004, having previously been chief executive at Stonham Housing Association.

Graham Melmoth, chair of the NCVO, said: "These appointments are a major coup for NCVO and I'm delighted to welcome both Dame Julia and Clare to the board.

"The expertise, energy and vision they bring will help ensure we continue to provide the strongest possible leadership to the sector."

In a separate appointment, Cleverdon has also joined Marie Curie Cancer Care as a special adviser to help the charity develop relationships with business.
