Coalition supports end to Section 28

A coalition of children's charities has called on the House of Lords to scrap legislation that was introduced in 1986 to prevent homosexuality being "promoted" in schools.

ChildLine, the Children's Society, National Children's Bureau, NCH and NSPCC are among the organisations in favour of the repeal of Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1986, which goes before the Lords on Thursday.

Lisa Payne, principal policy officer at National Children's Bureau, said: "It is a redundant piece of legislation that causes a lot of confusion and upset."
