Communication News: Community station asks Chancellor to appear on TV show

The Community Channel has asked Chancellor Gordon Brown to be interviewed by Jon Snow to help launch the Year of the Volunteer in 2005.

The not-for-profit television channel wrote to the Chancellor last month asking him to appear in one of four 30-minute interviews to feature on the station at the end of January.

A source from the organisation said: "I'd be surprised if we didn't get him because he instigated the whole concept." If he agrees, Brown will discuss his policies with regard to the specially dedicated year.

The channel, which has also written to Sir Bob Geldof and two unknown volunteers, has asked Channel 4 to screen a condensed version of the four interviews during its nightly news programme.
