Communications News: Arthritis Care wins further support for its early day motion

Arthritis Care is celebrating the success of its second early day motion urging ministers to tackle the disease, which affects around 9 million people in the UK.

After three weeks, the charity has persuaded 63 MPs to sign the motion, which calls on the Government to develop a UK-wide strategy for dealing with the disease.

Last November, another Arthritis Care-led early day motion was signed by 287 MPs. Only six other early day motions, out of 2,239 tabled, have ever attracted more signatures.

Mo Atchia, the charity's media relations manager, said support of such motions was extremely valuable because it increased the chances that its message would be heard by the Government.

Separately, the charity issued GPs with a toolkit during its Awareness Week last week, to help them develop high quality standards of management for people with osteoarthritis.
