Communications News: Brown backs Youth Net's volunteer site

Youth Net UK's hopes that its do-it.org.uk volunteer site will be used to facilitate next year's national youth volunteering scheme have been boosted by a personal recommendation from Chancellor Gordon Brown to the Russell Committee.

The committee was formed last month to establish a youth volunteering scheme for 2005 and will hear from various organisations. Maddy Heil, the charity's communications manager, believes the Chancellor's endorsement, which followed a meeting last week, will make it more likely that its proposals are taken forward.

The site currently has 60,000 volunteering opportunities and partnerships with 21,000 organisations.
