Communications News: Charity TV station's move to Sky could double its audience

The Community Channel believes its move to digital platform Sky 585, which transmits news and documentary stations such as the Discovery Channel, will more than double its regular viewing figures.

The channel moved from Sky 684, among the dating and shopping channels, on Monday.

Jane Mote, channel controller, said: "Now that we are on Sky 585 for 24 hours a day, charities can expect their news to impact on a wider, more diverse audience."

Apart from the anticipated increase in viewers, Mote said the channel would have red-button technology by August, making it possible for charities to fundraise and engage volunteers directly.

The channel is celebrating its move with a 'best of' week, which started on 7 June. It includes Nelson Mandela's recent World Aids Day awareness concert, called '46664 uncut', and ITV's With a Little Help from my Friends, which showed celebrities helping to renovate charity properties.
