Communications News: CRUK seeks new PR chief after Osborne takes redundancy

Cancer Research UK is advertising for a new communications chief after former communications director Susan Osborne took voluntary redundancy.

Osborne spent eight years as a board member and director of communications at the charity and the pre-merger Cancer Research Campaign, before her role was made redundant during a shake-up last year to strengthen clinical work and reduce CRUK's emphasis on PR and communications.

"The job offered to me was a demotion because it was a diminished role that didn't carry a place on the board," said Osborne, who accepted voluntary redundancy on 19 December.

The £60,000 vacancy, advertised as 'head of press, PR and media relations', will entail setting overall strategic direction with Professor Robert Souhami, head of the new clinical, corporate and external affairs directorate.

Osborne's communications directorate was subsumed by this new directorate.
