Communications News: Death ship

Whalewatch, an international coalition of 140 NGOs, launched a multi-media campaign last week in a bid to try to stop the International Whaling Commission deciding to allow the resumption of whaling. The commission held a meeting in Sweden with government officials from 20 countries last week to discuss the issue. The international coalition ran anti-whaling press ads in several countries including Holland and Spain, released details of its objections to the press and sent NGO leaders to lobby the commission. "The decision for or against whaling will be made by the commission next summer," said Jonathan Owen, head of media at the World Society for the Protection of Animals and a Whalewatch spokesman. "We have ensured that the media know us as a source they can contact in future."
