COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Disability charity to publish guidebook on job placements

Skill: The National Bureau for Students With Disabilities is launching a guide to help disabled people get work experience placements, and to help build confidence about their ability to cope in a professional environment.

The charity is also using the report to urge employers and the Government to do more to ensure that disabled people can obtain work experience.

"The Government needs to play its part by improving the current patchy coverage of work experience in the disability discrimination legislation," said Barbara Waters, chief executive of Skill.

"It is ironic that while disabled people have clear legal rights in employment, the same cannot be said of work experience, which is often a first step towards employment."
