COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Fostering Network gets publicity from TV soap story line

The soap Emmerdale is helping to garner interest in Foster Care Fortnight, which kicks off on 24 June. Women's magazine My Weekly has already publicised interviews with the actors who play Paddy and Emily, a young unmarried couple who are trying to become foster parents.

The recruitment fortnight is co-ordinated by the Fostering Network, giving national publicity to events organised on a local level around the UK.

The charity's members, which include 99 per cent of local authorities, will be able to use a new range of posters based on the theme, "Help a child to thrive".

Events will include balloon launches in town centres, coffee mornings, tea parties in town halls and stalls in county shows and in supermarkets.
