COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Fpa and NCB create guide to help public care professionals

A new manual has been produced for people providing courses on sex and relationships to professionals working with children and young people in care.

The manual has been prepared by Fpa (formerly the Family Planning Association) and the National Children's Bureau (NCB) which say young people in care are vulnerable to poor sexual health.

A recent study found that nearly half of young women were mothers within two years of leaving full-time care.

"Carers and social workers say that it's tricky to raise these issues," said Alison Williams, principal officer for children in public care at NCB. "We hope the manual will help carers feel more confident about these issues."
