COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Heart charity offers help to companies to cut work illness

The British Heart Foundation is offering businesses an exercise information pack to reduce the estimated 33 million working days lost in 2002 to work-related illness.

Companies are being asked to make a suggested donation of £25 for the Legal and General-sponsored Workplace Health Activity Toolkit, which includes materials to motivate staff to exercise such as leaflets and a wall planner.

The foundation has publicised the pack at conferences, including those of the British Chamber of Commerce and the Occupational Health Annual Conference.

The foundation has also produced toolkits aimed at schoolchildren and the elderly.

The charity estimates that physical activity programmes at work can reduce absenteeism by up to 20 per cent.
