Communications News: Mencap alerts MPs to poor healthcare

Mencap is launching a parliamentary campaign this week to secure better healthcare for people with learning disabilities.

The charity published its Treat me right! report online on Monday and will hand it to MPs at a parliamentary reception today.

The campaign aims to raise awareness that people with a learning disability receive poorer healthcare than others, sometimes leading to premature death.

Posters have gone up in regional GP surgeries, and local Mencap groups across the UK will ask people to lobby their MP via its website.

The campaign also calls for all healthcare staff to have learning-disability training.
