NCVO plans to tackle charities' staff recruitment and retention problems with a three-year programme to improve human resource management.
The programme, which is being funded with a £259,000 Community Fund grant and begins this month, has been designed to provide a range of seminars and publications to which human resources managers can refer to improve employment relations within their organisations.
NCVO's Human Resource Service will work with human resources professionals and trustees in the voluntary sector, funders and funding bodies, policy makers and regulators, and local development agencies.
"Voluntary and community organisations spend up to one-third of their income on staff, which is a huge investment," said Joanna Wootten, head of NCVO's Human Resource Service.
"To ensure staff are effectively managed, developed and valued, those responsible for the human resources function need to be equipped with the tools for the task. The project will ensure that the right tools exist, whether they be resources or networking opportunities."
