Communications News: Newspaper Society links with CRUK for 'Local Paper Week'

Cancer Research UK has been chosen by the Newspaper Society to benefit from coverage across the UK as part of Local Newspaper Week, which runs from 3-9 May.

Every year, the society selects a charity to benefit, and sends a press pack to regional papers in March to help them prepare their individual coverage about the charity.

This year's pack offered editors ideas for competitions, stories and events, which they can adapt to assist the cancer charity. It will also help drive recruitment to its 'Race for Life' fundraising campaign, comprising 150 5km sponsored runs across the UK.

The pack includes an article by Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell, an ambassador for Race for Life, highlighting the important contribution the regional press makes to good causes.
