COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: RNID educates card buyers with primer of signing phrases

The RNID is hoping to encourage more people to learn basic sign language by including illustrations in its Christmas cards showing people how to finger-spell popular seasonal phrases.

Recipients of the cards are introduced to sign language with a step-by-step guide on how to sign phrases such as "Seasons Greetings" to a deaf person. Eight cards spell out different messages and all include a sheet detailing the standard manual alphabet.

The cards will also promote the RNID's Active Support Programme that is currently being introduced in the charity's care homes, and will encourage people to take a more active role in the care-home environment.

The Christmas cards are available from the RNID's Christmas catalogue or by calling 0808 808 0123.
