Communications News: Spot on

The Meningitis Association of Scotland is the latest charity to benefit from a series of children's picture books that raise awareness of illnesses and conditions. Publisher Red Kite Books has previously linked with charities to produce books on eczema and asthma. 'George has Meningitis' was made after the Scottish charity's founder and chairwoman, Eileen McKiernan, persuaded series author Jenny Leigh to cover the illness. The book carries the Doctor Spot Casebook logo and features two pages of medical advice to parents about the transmission, symptoms and treatments of the disease.

Some 7,000 books have been ordered by schools, hospitals and GP surgeries, and they will soon be available in bookshops for £4.99, with half of the proceeds going to the charity.
