COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Taking the first steps

Out and About, a redesigned and updated version of a booklet of advice and information for young gay and bisexual men, is launched this week by the HIV/Aids charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

It portrays five teenage characters confronting questions such as whether to tell friends and family about their sexuality, how to meet other gay and bisexual people and what to do if they experience bullying or victimisation. Information about sexually transmitted infections and safe sex is included, but the charity says the booklet is suitable for use in schools and youth groups because it's free of explicit language or images. It also gives the details of telephone helplines, web sites and magazines that can offer support and information.

Out and About can be viewed at, which has an order form for bulk copies. For a free single copy of the booklet, call 0845 1221200.
