CARE International UK is publishing a series of leaflets directed at all delegates attending next Monday's World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. The Make Cities Count campaign will address the humanitarian charity's fears that cities are failing to tackle "the overlooked crisis of urban poverty". "The number of people living in cities around the world is growing by one million a week, and most of those people are desperately poor,

said Will Day, chief executive at CARE International UK. "Yet nowhere does the summit address the poverty arising from this growth or the fact that poor people are excluded from city governments."
