The Make Poverty History campaign is the combined efforts of UK charities and trade unions to press the Government to address developing world issues such as debt and hunger.

This site is an impressive mix of graphics (there's striking use of images of deprived children), quite dense information on the complexities of global inequality, and, of course, Dawn French, one of the many celebrities supporting the campaign.

The overall look and feel is stylish and punchy, which must have been words in the design brief and have been executed well.

Main pages

The site starts with quite a slow, moody graphic of a child, which slowly fades in over a dusty third world background. After more than one visit, this may lose its appeal and regular visitors may be glad of the 'skip intro' option. Past that, there are clear, almost over-simplistic, button-style links to other sections on the main page. On the negative side, the news section is a bit bare - just two releases - which may give the impression that not a lot's happening so far.

Special features

Two things stand out: the ease of 'doing something' on behalf of the campaign ('Email Tony Blair', 'Learn More') and the depth of background information.

Make Poverty History says:

The website carries key messages and actions, media assets, photos and film clips, and enables people to make their voice heard in this campaign.

Visitors can find where to buy white bands, learn more about the issues and email Tony Blair asking him to change unfair trade rules, cancel debt and increase development aid."
