Community Fund criticised in probe over asylum grant

A National Audit Office (NAO) report published today criticises the Community Fund for insufficiently "robust" procedures over its controversial grant last year to the National Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns (NCADC).

The report recommends that the fund should introduce new policies to check all aspects of grant applicants' activities, review the web sites of organisations receiving its grants, and clarify guidance on "political and doctrinaire activity".

The report says that the Community Fund adhered to all its internal policies and procedures in approving the NCADC grant.

"But these policies and procedures were not sufficiently robust to alert the fund explicitly to the risks it had undertaken in relation to the award of the grant."
