A revised version of a guide to fullcost recovery by chief executives' body Acevo was published yesterday as part of Compact week, which runs until 7 November.
The new version is designed to be of particular help to small and medium-sized organisations, according to Nick Aldridge, Acevo's head of policy.
"It contains a step-by-step approach to costing, which makes it easier to use, and it reflects helpful government guidance which has come out recently," he said.
Chief executive Stephen Bubb says in his foreword that third sector organisations used to struggle to develop infrastructure because funders favoured projects with tangible outcomes over 'core costs'.
"Organisations and funders are now abandoning the distinction between 'project costs' and 'core costs' in droves," he says. "They recognise that overheads are vital to an organisation's delivery, development and indeed its survival. The core/project distinction is artificial and increasingly obsolete."
