CSV appoints former civil servant Sir Jon Shortridge as chair

Challenging times ahead for the volunteering charity, says ex-mandarin

Volunteering charity CSV has appointed former civil servant Sir Jon Shortridge as its chair.

Shortridge, who was permanent secretary at the former Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills before his retirement in July, was announced as the new chair yesterday.

A CSV spokesman said he was chosen unanimously by its board and would start the new role today by visiting some of the charity's projects.

Shortridge said he was looking forward to chairing the charity, but that it had "challenging times ahead".

"People will be expecting more for less," he said. "But 11 million people have told researchers they would volunteer if they were asked, so I'm excited by the prospect."
