CSV encourages schools to teach volunteering

Make a Difference Day campaign will provide teachers with lesson plans on child poverty and fair trade

Volunteering charity CSV will encourage schools to teach students about volunteering as part of its Make a Difference Day campaign this autumn.

CSV will give teachers free lesson plans covering topics such as local politics, child poverty and fair trade.

The lesson plans will encourage students to address the issues themselves by joining volunteering projects or setting up new schemes.

The campaign will be supported by TV presenter Fern Britton, diver Tom Daley and weather presenter Siân Lloyd.

Simon Tiller, campaign coordinator for Make a Difference Day, said: "We know young people care about issues that affect both them and the world but they are not always sure how they can help.

"These lessons give concrete examples of volunteering projects that students can organise or become involved in."
