CSV is paid £100k interest on grant

The Department of Health has agreed to pay CSV interest on a £3.7m grant it withheld from the volunteering charity for 10 months.

Care services minister Ivan Lewis confirmed on Monday that the interest, thought to total more than £100,000, would be paid this week.

"I have agreed in principle that any loss of interest incurred by CSV as a result of the undue delays should be reimbursed," he said.

"Finance specialists from the department and CSV are working together to confirm the precise amount involved, and I expect the appropriate payment to be made within the next few days."

The settlement, which is believed to be the first of its kind, comes one month after CSV invoiced the DoH for interest on delayed funds for its capital volunteering programme.
