Cyber security for charities part 8: Budget-friendly data protection tips

Third Sector Promotion National Cyber Security Centre

Jonathan Chevallier, CEO, Charity Digital, explains how small charities can protect the personal data they hold.

According to a 2022 Third Sector / NCSC data security survey with 296 third sector professionals, fewer than half of charities (46%) use firewalls, only 34% have a clear process for reporting potential incidents and only 42% offer cyber security awareness training to staff.

Does everyone in your charity understand what personal data the organisation holds, why it holds it and how long for? The more data you hold, the more risk you’ve got. But there are ways to help protect your data even if budgets are tight.

In this video, the final part in our eight-part cyber security series, Jonathan Chevallier, CEO, Charity Digital explains:

  • Why it’s so important for small charities like Charity Digital to keep personal data safe.
  • Top three budget-friendly cyber security measures.
  • What small charities should do if they experience a data breach.
