Defra funding for green initiatives

Defra has awarded a handful of grants to voluntary sector projects that are encouraging people to follow more environmentally sustainable lifestyles.

Choose2Re-use has received £111,000 to part-fund a three-year re-use campaign led by the Association of Charity Shops and the Cambridgeshire and Essex Community Re-use and Recycling Networks.

The campaign aims to change behaviour so that the public donates more reusable material of greater worth to charity shops and community groups.

YHA has been awarded £350,000 to launch an environmental education programme, Green Shoots, at youth hostels throughout England.

And £213,000 has been granted to the London Sustainability Exchange.
