Dogs home warns of scam involving internet domains

Battersea Dogs Home is warning charities to be on their guard against an internet scam.

The charity was approached by a company called Domain Register Services, which offered it first refusal on a set of domain names relating to Battersea Dogs Home that it claimed another company was trying to purchase.

It warned that the company could use the addresses in an inappropriate manner. Other charities have in the past found their names used by pornography web sites.

After liaising with its external IT support company, the dogs' home discovered the names were registered in countries such as Columbia and were practically useless to a UK-based organisation.
