Donors 'should be kept informed'

International development organisations must focus on maintaining a positive image by ensuring donors are properly informed about the impact of their giving, according to research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

Research by the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute, which is affiliated to the council, suggests international development donors are more critical and demanding than those supporting other causes. Fundraisers must find new methods of engagement with them, particularly through new media, it says.

It is part of the council's non-governmental public action research programme and is intended to build a better understanding of international development giving.

It also shows how trends for international giving have developed over the past 25 years.
