Dunkirk spirit

The Royal British Legion has teamed up with Lancashire-based brewery Daniel Thwaites to produce Liberation Ale to raise money for the legion's welfare work. Launched to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day, the brewery will make a donation for every bottle of Liberation Ale sold. The legion hopes that sales of the beer will raise at least £25,000, which will all go towards answering the 300,000 calls for help which the charity receives each year. Liberation Ale will be available in most supermarkets nationwide from 10 May until Christmas. Initially available in 500ml bottles and commemorative packs, a cask version is planned to coincide with the annual Poppy Appeal in November.
