A kitemark for healthy working conditions in the voluntary sector is one of the ideas proposed by a new forum set up by the Partnership at Work Trust.
The Healthy Working Forum has been set up in response to the extension of the Disability and Discrimination Act to small organisations. They now have a duty to make adjustments for people with disabilities and set up regulations on grievance procedures.
Kathy Gaffney, information worker for the Partnership at Work Trust, said: "The voluntary sector generates a disproportionate number of employment tribunal cases - some 6 per cent of cases for a workforce that is only 2 per cent of the total. The new employment rights mean that this will probably have increased, with many new trustees and directors more knowledgeable about the community than they are of their duties as employers."
