Facebook is to start allowing organisations, including charities, to post information through a service designed to help people during crises.
The social media network last year launched its Community Help feature, which enables people to ask for and give help during a crisis.
Facebook said yesterday that it was expanding the feature, which was used in more than 500 events last year, including the terrorist attack in Barcelona and Hurricane Harvey in the US, to give organisations new ways to reach people with, for example, offers of supplies or transportation.
A post from Asha Sharma, product lead, social good at Facebook, said the new feature was to be rolled out over the coming weeks, with selected organisations including Save the Children and the International Medical Corps set to take part.
"Our priority is to build tools that help keep people safe and provide them with ways to get the help they need to recover and rebuild after a crisis," said Sharma.
"We hope this update makes it even easier for people to get the help they need in times of crisis and will give businesses and organisations an opportunity to build stronger communities around them."
