FINANCE: Co-operative Bank launches 24-hour service for groups

The Co-operative Bank has launched a 24-hour telephone and internet banking service for charities and community groups.

Community Direct, which is aimed at groups that don't require an overdraft, allows customers to deposit up to £6,000 a month in cash and issue 200 cheques a month for free. Automated debits will also incur no charge as long as a minimum balance of £2,000 is maintained.

The bank is also offering a complimentary guide for treasurers of clubs, societies and charities that sign up to the service.

Ryan O'Neill, head of corporate marketing at the Co-operative Bank, said: "The bank appreciates that being a first-time treasurer can sometimes be daunting and our handy 'Treasurer's Guide' is intended to make life easier."

"We also understand that the role of a club or charity treasurer can be time-consuming so Community Direct allows you to bank and control your monies simply and conveniently - by phone, internet of post," he says.
